Welcome to Science's online comments page!

Science encourages you to discuss and debate articles in the comments section. Online comments are published online only, but may be excerpted in print. They are short, timely, topical comments on Research, Commentary, and News articles published in Science in the past 3 months. Comments should be less than 300 words. Statements should be supported by full references when appropriate, with a maximum of 10 references. Comments should not include announcements for commercial products; self-promotion of published or unpublished work; or material that has previously been published online or in print. Science will not publish material that is offensive, derogatory, obscene, infringing of any third party's rights, or contrary to local, national, and international laws and regulations.

Comments will be posted at the editors' discretion. Comments are not reviewed, and they may or may not be edited for style and clarity. Authors are not contacted before posting. To avoid restating points that have already been made, please read other responses before submitting your own. Only comments in English will be posted. Your name and e-mail address are required to post a response.

Comments are not indexed in search engines such as Medline, and they are not listed in the Science Table of Contents.

Conflict of Interest: If you have financial or professional affiliations that could be perceived as a conflict of interest in responding to the relevant Science article, please describe those affiliations. The information will be posted along with your comment.
